INSTALLATION
AND SITE PREPARATION
Site preparation is important
and is the responsibility of the purchaser to
ensure it is carried out correctly so as not to
void warranty.
The base for the poly tank to
sit on must be flat, level and compacted properly.
Ensure that the base of the poly tank is supported
at all times.
There are a variety of bases
that can used to place the poly tank upon.
-
Crusher dust - 100mm (4”)
thick and well compacted - ensure there are no
stones or other objects protruding.
-
Concrete slab - 100mm (4”)
thick, reinforced, smooth and level.
-
Sand fill - 100mm (4”) at
least, compacted and level - ensure it has
been well retained and free from washout.
-
Ground - it is important to
make sure the site has been prepared properly
free from rocks, tree roots and other objects
and that soft spots have been well compacted.
-
Elevated tank stands -
these must be well engineered to suit the load
of the tank full of water, with plank spacings
no greater than 40mm.
-
The base must be at least
350mm larger in diameter than the tank
diameter so as to support the full tank.
FITTINGS
Do not over-tighten
fittings, to avoid damaging the thread.
-
Ensure outlet pipes are
supported and do not rely on tank wall for
stability.
-
The overflow must be
piped well away from the base to ensure there
is no undermining of the base.
-
Inlet flow must not be
greater than the overflow rate.
-
Stainless steel strainer to
keep your water free of debris, birds, insets
and rodents.
-
0.75mm (3/4”) tap
provided.
-
Poly tanks fitted with 90mm
over flow.
GENERAL
-
The poly tank should be
secured upon delivery by tying it down or by
25mm (1”) of water.
-
The strainer located in the
top of the poly tank will collect most leaves
and solids from your gutters, however it
should be cleaned out from time to time.
-
All Tamworth Poly Tanks are
Roto-Moulded in one piece with no joins.
GROUND LEVEL INSTALLATION
This is the most common position and the
below illustration shows how the tank works in relation to the house or shed and the different parts that make the system work.
Two of the most important things to remember are:
- the pad or base must extend beyond the bottom of the tank by at least 350mm
(3000 litres plus)
- you must pipe the overflow well clear of the base to avoid undermining the base
(Remember to do
this or you will risk voiding you warranty).

MAXIMUM COLLECTION METHOD
To get the most collection of rain from your roof area, consider connecting a downpipe to more than one gutter of your house or shed. Remember though, that two inflows of water into your tank must be equaled by two overflows from your tank.

IMPORTANT FITTING
Please ensure that the pipe leading away from the tank is supported, or a leak could result and /or damage to the tank wall.
If you are running a long length of pipe over some distance it is wise to use some flexible hose near the start of the fittings to absorb any shock or movement.
SLIMLINE
The advantage of a slimline tank is the ease at which it fits into small spaces as evidenced below. A slimline can also be put on a stand.
